I wanted a clean looking site and a lot of the default Magento functionality was not required. The following modules were disabled:

Mage_Paypal

Mage_PaypalUk

Mage_Review

Mage_Tag

Remove compare

Use the extention "WFS Disable Compare" on Magento Connect
